Vicki's Card - "Bee" Happy kind of day

 I just felt like sending my sweet sister, Vicki, a card.

So, I pulled out one of my most fave edger dies - the bumble bee edger!

Both Vicki & I love and understand the importance of bees.

I used 'Bumble bee' colors of jet black & golden yellow. 

I added a few Prima resin flowers to dress up the front of the card.

I decided to do some stamping inside of the card to include florals and bees.

A few flower clusters were added for a pop of color too.

Fragile World - Rusty Patched Bumble Bees - Endangered

 In my continued love with adult coloring,

I bought new books illustrated by a very popular artist, Kerby Rosanes.

The book I'm introducing today is titled Fragile World.

Each and every page is dedicated to one of these categories -

 critically endangered; endangered; vulnerable; or near threatened.

  

My first choice is the Rusty Patched Bumble Bee.

Details about this endangered bee is at the bottom of my post....

A little closer look.

These bumbles are named "rusty patched" because they actually have 

a rusty colored patch near the back of their bodies!

A variety of flowers and colors......

Look closely....

See the shimmer on the wings?

I painted them with Lindy's Gang Glitz Spritz "Blazing Sun". 

This is a product normally used in my scrapbooking hobby.

It's hard to capture in a photograph.  

Every single bumble bee on the page has its wings painted

 with this golden shimmer!

Now for the details about the endangered Rusty Patched Bumble Bee....

Rusty patched bumblebees once thrived across much of North America, but over the past twenty years the population has dropped by almost 90 percent.  Most of this decline is due to lost habitat, which deprives the bees of nesting sites and prevents them from accessing nectar and pollen.  Not only do the bees rely on the pollen from plants, but some plants also rely on the bees to pollinate them.  However, work is being done to reintroduce these bees and to sustain some of their natural habitat.

Sphynx Cat in an Egyptian World

I'm sure some of you are pondering the title I made for this one.

Well, a Sphynx (hairless) cat is not Egyptian at all,

but has the same pronunciation as the mythical Sphinx statues.

I began by coloring the background, starting at the bottom.

The blue just wasn't blending well at all. 

So I topped it with two other blues.  

I really wasn't happy at all and almost gave up even coloring this page. 

I decided since I felt I had 'messed up' the whole page 

that I would just color a rainbow of different colors.  

That's how I ended up with yellow, purple & pink. 

I used unusual colors for the cat because the rainbow background 

just 'made me do it'!

I chose a Black Cherry color.....ohhhhhhh!

Isn't it fantastic?!

And those stunning apple green eyes!

I LOVE the way the artist drew the front paw!!!

My Miss Gali does that when she's trying to reach out 

and grab a wand toy as it's whizzing by.  

TOO CUTE!

How impressive to have the long tail weave through the Egyptian stones!

With all of this color, I just couldn't have a sandy colored Egyptian stone city without pops of color for interest!

I'll begin by showing you a sphinx of King Tut.

Note: the apple is the unusual 'surprise' that the artist hides in his illustrations!

I'm very pleased that the 'happy accident' background led me to choose the color for the cat and to add pops of color in the stone city.

High Up In The Apple Tree

 I've been taking a break from any work of any kind and enjoying coloring instead.

Another phenomenal illustration by artist Kerby Rosanes,

that I've appropriately titled.

It's hard to photograph a page that remains in the coloring book.

The entire background is colored in a beautiful light sky blue.

The apples have a layer of three reds that achieved their final color.

A Yellow Chartreuse was used for the bottoms of the apples.

The flesh of the bitten apple is a sandy color. 

And lastly, the lady in the orchard is very small, 

but I still managed to color her checked apron.

To 'semi-mimic' the spots on apples, 

but also to just add some sparkle and interest, 

I used a Metallic Gold pen.

Look closely, on the very left side of the apple orchard, 

on the tip of the bitten apple and there you will find an echidna!

I used two greens on the leaves to give more dimension.
