Adorable ~ Lindy's Stamp Gang July 2014 Color Challenge

When I saw this month’s color challenge on Lindy’s Stamp Gang blog, I knew exactly which photo I wanted to use!   I found this precious photo on Pinterest a while back and have scrapped it before.   With a specific selection of colors in this challenge, I set to work on this new layout using as many of the chosen colors as possible that I felt would coordinate well with this photo.   I chose two sprays and two embossing powders.  The colors I chose from the July 2014 Color Challenge selection are: Flat Fabio "Queen of Hearts Red"; Starburst "Peony Scarlet Red"; embossing powders "Candy Cane Red Gold" and "Scotch Broom Yellow Red".   You can see all of these beautiful colors, along with many many more at Lindy's Stamp Gang website here.

Once I selected the paper for the main page, which has a few white floral flourish imprints on it, I decided to punch a partial doily with white corrugated paper.  This provided a great spot to show off the Lindy’s fabulous Flat Fabio “Queen of Hearts Red” that I paint-brushed on white roses by Wild Orchid Crafts.  Using a paint brush gets in all of the small, deep areas that spraying might miss.
After a coat of white gesso on the custom title chipboard, I embossed it using another color in this challenge – Lindy’s “Candy Cane Red Gold”.
The cute picket fence is by Want2Scrap that I first coated with white gesso and then embossed with Lindy’s “Scotch Broom Yellow Red”.   I then coated it with Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint “Clear Rock Candy”.

The next color I chose to use as part of this challenge is Lindy’s Starburst “Peony Scarlet Red”.  I lightly spritzed some pieces of white cheesecloth; sprayed a nice full coat on white lace and then paint-brushed a heavy coat to Wild Orchid Crafts light pink flowers that I entwined on the picket fence.    You can see the variations of this gorgeous color, depending on the different media that you use it on and how much is sprayed or coated with a paint brush.

I finished the layout by punching the right edge of the page and then placing a small piece of lace on the bottom of the LO that is very similar to the punched edge.  The flowers to the right of the photo are from different manufacturers listed below; noting that the deep red wild rose, amidst the other pastel flowers, was brush-painted with Lindy’s Flat Fabio “Queen of Hearts Red”.

Thanks for taking a look at my newest layout.  Hope you have a wonderful day!  Lisa : )

IMAGINE ~ a vintage layout

Here is another vintage layout of the intriguing and very beautiful early 1900's New York super model, Evelyn Nesbit Thaw.  She was around 17 years old in this photo. Her beauty really astounds me, which makes it so easy to create scrapbook layouts!
I chose the paper that I felt suited her dreamy eyes and then converted the original photo into sepia color.
All of the products I used are listed below.  The white lace needed to be toned down and when I lightly sprayed it with Lindy's "Cocoa Bean Copper" I was so happy with the result!  WOW!  I decided not to spray a heavier coat because it really matched so well with the browns and rose colors in the paper.
Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!  Lisa : )

he is the reason...why I love cats soooooo much

This layout features my first love ~ my very first cat...my big boy, "T.T." (Tiny Tiger).  What a “love muffin” he was!  I chose Bo Bunny "The Avenues" collection because of the simplicity.  I didn't want to over embellish this page since there are 3 photos that are not the best quality.  They were taken in 1978/79 - way before digital was in our vocabulary!   Although this layout isn't very 'elaborate', I feel that my T.T. deserves a place in my pet scrapbook.  After all, he started my love of cats that will never ever end.   I am now 53 years old and the memories I have of T.T. are very vivid.  He is the only boy cat I have ever had.  I am 18 years old in both photos with my sweet boy in this layout.  And as you can see, we were big buddies watching TV together.

T.T. was HUGE.  When I was in 7th-8th grade, I walked to and from school a few miles from home.  When I would round the corner to our street after school I could see T.T. waiting for me in the driveway (5 houses away) - he was big...very big!   I had a certain whistle for him and he would come running up the sidewalk to meet me.  I would pick him up and kiss him and then 'throw' him across my shoulder and off we would go to our house.  He LOVED it!
T.T. had paws the size of a U.S. dollar coin.  His father, whose name was "Buckwheat" was even bigger!
One day I heard a lot of dogs barking and they sounded very close.  I looked out the front window and there on the driveway laid (yes LAID) my T.T. acting very calm as he whipped his tail up and down, surrounded by 3 huge dogs - all showing their teeth and barking (I believe they were labs).  By the time I made it to the front door only 6 feet away, there stood T.T. in the driveway watching 3 cowardly dogs yelping (yes literally YELPING) down the street!  LOL!  I think T.T. pulled a ninja move on those dogs.  "Fear" was never part of his vocabulary!

At night he was a tom cat in the true sense.  He owned the neighborhood and more than likely fathered many litters, since back in those days there wasn't any talk or concerns about 'fixing' your pets.  Although later, my parents did agree to have him neutered.  During the day, T.T. was SO loveable.  I don't think I've ever had a cat since then that is more loveable than he was.  What a big ole baby!  In the early morning my Mom would let T.T. in the house.  He would come to my room.  I would fake like I was sleeping. He would come in my bed and rub his big huge head all over my face to wake me up and acknowledge him.   Funny how memories over 35 years ago are so vivid.

Cats really are cool - period.  And T.T. was one helluva cool cat!
Thanks for viewing and hope you have a great day!  Lisa : )

Sophie Forever in my heart

Today I am posting a layout I made of my precious Sophie, who is now in Heaven.  Sophie's eyes were actually amber in color, but sometimes they took on a green tone, as this photo shows.  In 2005, Hurricane Rita hit the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.  Flooding from the storm surge occurred many miles inland, causing coyotes to move north.  This caused a huge surge of coyote population into our city that no one was aware of until our precious pets, namely cats, went missing without a trace.  My innocent Sophie was a victim of the coyote's survival for food.  Sophie died at age 14 years old in June 2008.  She loved sitting on our driveway in the early morning hours (4-5 a.m.) when my husband was reading the newspaper before leaving for work.  She was taken right off our driveway.  I became an advocate in the newspaper and local news to stop these wild animals and make people aware.  Coyotes were being seen throughout our city.  Our neighborhood used to have cats in so many driveways, but they all disappeared.  Cats are now making a strong comeback six years later in 2014 since things have cooled down and coyotes are back where they belong.  There have been no more sightings in our city - thank GOD!  This was the most heartbreaking loss I have ever been through in my life.  Sophie was my baby and I deeply loved her and always 'protected' her.  There is a place in my heart that not even a human being can invade - it is ALL Sophie's spot.  I miss her so much, even today.  No cat will ever take her place.  She was my world.  She taught me that loving cats was just plain right and felt fabulously great.  I love you Sophie.

Sweet Daydreams ~ Beautiful Prima Fairy Belle paper

In May this year I had the desire to create a shabby chic/vintage layout with all handmade embellishments.  Sometimes I love spending relaxing time making flowers and butterflies.  It is so rewarding for me.  I found this adorable colorized photo on Pinterest.  She seemed to be daydreaming, so that is how the layout title came to be.   I absolutely LOVE the Prima "Fairy Belle" collection.  I hope that they come out with another similar line because these papers are just gorgeous!
To give this layout a vintage feel, I used a "cracks" stamp and dotted the page with dark brown 'espresso' (very dark brown) acrylic paint using a fan brush.
The white lace was recolored with a light spraying of the beautiful Lindy’s Starburst spray "Bodacious Blush".

My Love My Life - a Venetian Wedding layout with gorgeous Prima Fairy Belle paper

I created this layout in February of my beautiful daughter and her handsome husband on their wedding day.  They decided on a romantic getaway marriage in Venice, Italy.  They had the most awesome photographers!  This photo was taken in one of the alleys in Venice.   How romantic!
I absolutely LOVE the beautiful plums, creams, blues, blush and rose colors in the Prima Fairy Belle collection!  I added some pewter colored pearls to the lace.  They tend to take on a very light lavender tone.  Flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts.  I recolored some of them using one of my most favorite Starburst colors from Lindy's "Whale Watch Blue" (gray-blue) and also the beautiful "Bodacious Blush".

girl - vintage layout using gorgeous Prima Fairy Belle paper

I created this sweet vintage layout in May.  I knew that this adorable girl would look absolutely precious on the beautiful light teal & peach colors of the Prima Fairy Belle papers. I wanted to keep this page 'simple' to not disturb the integrity of the beautiful paper design.  I did a little bit of stamping to add interest.  I decorated an otherwise plain white key with beautiful Wild Orchid Crafts open roses and a bit of stickle.  The beautiful fleur de lis lace is from a friend.  I think the lace 'made' the layout.
This was so much fun to create! Thank you so much for looking and I hope you have a wonderful day! Lisa :)

Gali Gorgeous

Hi again everyone!
My 2nd post on my new blog is a layout I made of the gorgeous Galadrial, our big Birman who is MaMa to Lucy (whose layout was my 1st post).  Miss Gali was a show cat and the breeding 'Queen' of a small cattery operated in the home of Trish Young of LesJeunes Birmans in the Houston, Texas area.  Gali made Champion status as a show cat, but did not advance to a higher level only because she was busy having litters and then came to our home at the age of 2 years old....and I decided no more cat shows would be in her life.   She is considered a perfect Birman because her markings meet all of the standards for this breed.  She is Purrrrrrfect to me - no matter what!  We have given Miss Gali a relaxing, loving and 'uneventful' life with her daughter Lucy.  They are the best of friends and love to play chase with each other.  Ahhhhhh.  How nice it is!

Products used:

Kaisercraft's Sweet Nothings collection "Silver Lining" for the main page
Bo Bunny's Weekend Market collection "Vintage Labels" (side w/dots on navy)
-distressed under the photo and also punched and cut pieces on the layout edges
Title: custom laser cut from Want2Scrap
-Gesso coated and then embossed with Lindy's Stamp Gang "Midnight Sapphire Obsidian"
-Wire dipped in acrylic paint color "Robin's Egg" and then made tiny dots on the title
Flowers: most are Recollections (Michael's) and some Prima
Butterflies are Petaloo Deep Blue Velvet
Pigment inked heart stencils - some outlined with bling (because my heart is so full of love for this sweetie heart Miss Gali)

I Love Lucy

Welcome to my very first blog post!
I decided, in honor of my blog title, that I would post a layout of our youngest Birman sweetie, officially named 'I Love Lucy', but mostly referred to as "Lucy".  She is the youngest and last daughter to our big Birman, Miss Gali ("Galadrial").  So nice to have MaMa and baby daughter together! This photo was taken on 2/12/14 and really depicts Lucy's inquisitiveness and HUMONGOUS personality, spunk and mischief!  The typical round eyes of the Birman cat are so distinct in this photo of Lucy.  She has very intense blue colored eyes.  Some Birmans eyes are almost violet in color!   I am so delighted to share this layout with you today and I hope that it makes you smile!
I cropped the original photo and lightened it to better see Lucy's face since her 'mask' is so dark chocolate colored.  She was intently watching the doves eating after we spread the bird feed.  I was able to briefly distract her for this wonderful photo!
Lucy's rambunctious nature always makes me scrap her in very bright colors.  : )
