A Second Critique of Kalour Colored Pencils & a Happy Discovery

I've given my opinions before on Kalour colored pencils.
Those opinions can be found here:

I now have more opinions/critiques on this brand
since coloring with them several times.
While coloring my latest page, I opted to use Kalour pencils.
I keep trying to use them in hopes that I'll really fall in love,
which hasn't happened yet.

What I find is that they 'skip'.
What I mean by that is that they don't flow smoothly,
leaving white in between what appears to be tiny spots of wax.
To prove this point, here are a few photos.

Focus on the light green next to the magenta.
This is the first pass and as you can see, it's 'spotty'.

Going over it again, helps but not quite 100%.
It will do.

Another example.
This time, I've double colored the left side
and the right side has been done only once.

Now both sides have two coats of color.

Kalour colored pencils are famous for their vibrant colors
and boy do they have NUMEROUS blues, greens, every color family.
They're very inexpensive.

BUT
They wear down QUICKLY!
They can't be 'blended' using a colorless blending pencil
like I use with my Prismacolors & Polychromos.

However, a made a 'happy discovery' regarding blending.
I wasn't real happy with the amount of wax build up and
decided to erase some of it to see if it would help.

Using my Sakura Eraser,

I started erasing the area and guess what happened?!!
It was BLENDING the colors!
WHAT?!
I wasn't applying much pressure & continued doing this.
here is a photo where I only did the left leaf; not the stems
and I also blended (i.e. erased) the pink, green & blue part.

As you can see, there's a remarkable difference in the left leaf vs. the right leaf!
This technique will work on larger areas, but not intricate, small areas.

It's kind of 'sad' in a way that an eraser is what's needed to smooth & blend.

I won't be using this brand often
because it frustrates me.
But, for the low amount of cost,
they can be worth it for some & still produce beautiful colorings.
I'm just particular and like a smooth finish versus a spotty, waxy, rougher finish.

That is all. 😁

Have a blessed week!
Lisa
