Gypsy Soul

A stunning photo of Evelyn Nesbit Thaw, taken in the early 1900's, seemed a perfect fit for the Art-I-Cake jewelry piece "Gypsy Soul" that I have in my stash!   (except maybe not so much the skull and lightning bolt - LOL)

I'm very intrigued by Evelyn and I always enjoy scrapping her!  She and my daughter are 'hauntingly' almost twins.  Perhaps that is what attracted me to Evelyn in the first place : )

I started with the reversed chickenwire stencil and flexible modeling paste.  Then I sprayed the lace with Lindy's Starburst color Salt Water Taffy for a subtle light pink color.  I decided to let the lace lay naturally on the page, just as it is off of the roll, in a half circle pattern, rather than glue it straight across the page.  I really like the look!

I decided to make the photo of Evelyn a sepia color to coordinate with the beautiful Kaisercraft collection "Betsy's Couture".  After distressing & layering the papers, I glued everything down.

 

Then came the finishing embellishments.......

first the title jewelry piece that I recolored from silver to copper using alcohol ink.

I also changed the dangling beads to some that I preferred from my own stash.

 

Metal filigree tear drop shapes added to the gypsy vibe (like earrings).  I heat embossed a few areas on them for a patina look; then decorated with pink rhinestones.

 

I made a small flower arrangement and added a glittered bird with it.  I found this bird in Michael's bargain bins.  It was actually a clip (like to put on a floral arrangement or a wreath).  I removed the clip and then with my Exacto knife, cut the rounded bottom so it would be flat and able to be glued to the page. 



 

 

Finishing touches of copper glass glitter, a lace covered large clothespin, stickers from the Kaisercraft Betsy's Couture collection & an ornate metal clothing clasp completed my layout.

Greta's Garden

April 9th, I photographed The Pink Garden - the resting place for our sweet pets that have gone.  Since they were all girls (Sophie, Sybil & Greta), only pink flowers grow here.  Right now the gorgeous, delightfully sweet scented amaryllis from my Dad, are in full bloom.  They are so majestic!

Greta was my Grand-dog German Shepherd, who contracted hepatitis and passed away at the young age of five.  She touched the lives of everyone who met her, including children at PetSmart (the pet store that allows you to bring your pets with you).  She would patiently sit while children pet her - some were eye to eye with her and would pat her head, but Greta didn't mind because she was always the 'star' everywhere she went!  She was the sweetest, most loving, well behaved, intelligent, gentle dog I've ever known.  She is still so greatly missed and will forever have a special place in all of our hearts.

I chose gray colored paper by Maja Design because I love pink with gray.  I started with a thin layer of flexible modeling paste to stencil part of a 12x12 "Fleur de Lis Doily" & then added a few touches of Berry colored pigment ink after it dried.

This is what the stencil looks like:

Mini script letters by The Dusty Attic were prepped with gesso and then heat embossed with Tim Holtz Distress color "Shabby Shutters".  I then inked the tops of the letters with Berry colored pigment ink and glued the title in place.

I stamped the edges of the LO with the beautiful Kaisercraft clear stamp "Flutter".

Both white and black gesso was splattered on the entire layout.  Pink and green micro beads were then randomly added.

I decorated this cute little resin frame by rubbing a few areas with Graphite colored wax to tone down the bright silver color.  Then I applied Distress Stickles "Worn Lipstick" to part of the frame design & added tiny baby pink rhinestones. 

After fussy cutting some butterflies, I made antennae for them and also added colored Diamond Dust to spruce them up.  Antique Bronze Distress Stickles was applied to the bodies.  Foam tape was used to lift them up from the page.

A flourish stamp, berry stems, flowers, cheesecloth, lace and pretty rhinestones in green, smoke & baby pink were the finishing touches.

Janis

I was able to create another layout before I have to get really busy 'restocking' the cabinets since our kitchen reno is complete.  YAY!
I just received my mail order of US Postal "Forever Stamps". That gave me the strong desire to scrap Janis Joplin - one of my very most favorite classic rock musicians.

I have entered my layout in The Dusty Attic April 2015 Mood Challenge!
The colors are stunning!
The word "Magical" on the Inspiration Board totally sums it up for how I feel about Janis Joplin : )

Of course I chose to use The Dusty Attic Music chippie!  I inked it with "Night Sky" (a very deep blue-black) and then added Distress Stickles color "Milled Lavender" to the note heads for some sparkle.

The Dusty Attic Mini Hearts #2 are precious and about the diameter size of a pencil eraser. 
These were inked in colors "Night Sky" and "Peony".

The Dusty Attic Monarch Butterflies are so detailed and gorgeous!  I prepped them with gesso; coated them in acrylic paint color "Warm White" and then heat embossed in clear Kaleidoscope.   Check out the sparkle!

I decided to layer different designs from the beautiful Bo Bunny Rose Café collection and then surround Janis' renowned photo with pretty flowers.  I had some cool embellishments in my stash: Art-I-Cake's "rock on sister" jewelry piece; bright ribbon with peace signs; and a wooden 'Peace' button....all icons that remind me of the awesome Janis Joplin!

1925 Fashionista

To pass the time during a kitchen reno, I scrapped yet another LO of Evelyn Nesbit, the early 1900's Super Model that I'm so obsessed with (LOL!).

I chose a mix of paper collections that coordinate very well together:
    ~Bo Bunny Somewhere in Time
    ~Bo Bunny The Avenues
    ~Graphic45 Steampunk Debutante 
      (I really love the femininity of this rose printed paper.  It matches perfectly with the  colors in this LO)

I started by stenciling a few areas of the page using copper crackle; then stamped with a Bo Bunny Stained Textures stamp; finished with a few good sprays of Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Shabby Turbine Teal. 
From a separate identical page, I fussy cut the beautiful teal flowers in the bottom corner and made them three dimensional with foam tape; inked the edges & then dressed them up with Patina colored Stickles.

I was especially excited to find a steam locomotive sticker in the Bo Bunny Somewhere in Time collection because, as you can see, Evelyn Nesbit Thaw is standing on a locomotive in this wonderful 1925 photo!  So, I enhanced this sticker with metal cogs and cotton for the 'steam'.

Since the Bo Bunny collection has a feminine/industrial theme, I was inspired to use lots of metal embellishments.  I also added microbeads for interest.  I combined colors Paradise & Jungle to become reminiscent of teal.

I added Wild Orchids Crafts roses (the teal ones were sprayed with LSG Starburst Shabby Turbine Teal); some rusty/natural colored hemp; punched rust colored cardstock to look like lace; and added finishing touches of microbeads & stickles.

Although it's a busy LO, I really enjoyed creating it and I'm pleased with the outcome.

The Classy Evelyn Nesbit

When I buy scrapbook collections, I usually load up on every item that comes with them. Then they sit in a drawer until the right photo comes along to make a perfect fit. 
 
The 1920's fashion theme of the Graphic45 Couture collection was perfectly suitable to scrap the early 1900's super model, Evelyn Nesbit Thaw.  I have scrapped her numerous times and will continue as long as I can find photos of her!  This photo was taken in the early 1920's, when Evelyn was in her mid-30's.  Such a beautiful and intriguing woman!

 

I'm sure by now that you have guessed that the "E" and "N" stickers stand for "Evelyn Nesbit".  : )

I fussy cut the Couture Magazine and placed it next to the photo.  All of the stamps on the bottom of the layout are also fussy cuts.

Cardstock flowers and a "CLASSY" tag were added decorative elements from this collection.  Various bling brads, a black tassel and beautiful black & teal feathers complemented the 1920's vibe.

 

I first fussy cut the 1920's model; then 'decorated' her: beaded strand became arm bracelets, as well as a waist long double-wrapped necklace; flat back tear-drop pearls became her earrings.  I placed a single stem rose in her hand to coordinate with the roses on her dress.  Black Soot Stickles enhanced the folds in her gown.  I am so excited how she turned out!

I chose some interesting dies to collage the photo area.

For added sparkle, Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst sprays were used on the Prima flowers.

Springtime Card Plaque

Here is my entry for The Dusty Attic March 2015 Inspiration Board challenge.

The bright and cheerful color palette on The Dusty Attic Inspiration Board reminded me of the beautiful fuchsia plant.

For me, the words "Burst" and "Splash" from the Inspiration Board vividly describe Springtime - bursts and splashes of gorgeous colors from nature are everywhere!

I chose to use The Dusty Attic Floral Corners #DA0848

I coated this chippie with white gesso; then heat embossed the leafy areas with LSG Spring Leaf Chartreuse.  I applied Liquid Pearls in Ocean Blue color to the outlines of each flower and Daffodil color to the stamens.

The open flower petals in this chippie are perfect to hold microbeads!  I mixed together the colors Peony, Bubblegum & Clear. Glossy Accents was used to hold the microbeads in place.





 

I printed and fussy cut a few cute blue & lime colored butterfly images; made double layer front wings using foam dots for a dimensional effect and then added Stickles for sparkle.  I formed the bodies and antennae with 22 gauge black wire.



 

I found the cutest Die-namics circle doily dies online and just had to use a couple of them on this card!  I was introduced to My Favorite Things dies by my good friend, Tracy Funk.  You should stop by her blog and be totally WOWed by her creativity!

  

 

Finally, some ribbons in coordinating colors made for a nice hanger of my card plaque.

Real Life Wonder

I created a layout using the oh-so gorgeous Bo Bunny Madeleine collection.  I love, love, love this collection!

I enjoy creating layouts using photos that I have taken and this one is no exception. 
I took this photo in June 2009 while visiting my daughter, Brianne, when she was living in the Chicago area attending school.
Brianne showed me this delightful, expertly created nest containing NINE tiny Robin eggs cushioned & surrounded by feathers, dried grasses, etc.  This incredible surprise was inside an abandoned BBQ pit that was on the balcony of the townhome Brianne was renting.  The vent cover on the side of the BBQ pit was missing, making a doorway to a perfect safe haven!  What a SMART MaMa bird!

 

When I saw the Lindy's Stamp Gang March 2015 Color Challenge, I knew immediately that the colors were perfect for this awesome photo! WOW!  

Here is the beautiful color challenge this month:

Using LSG C'est la vie Cerise from the Tres Chic Magicals set, I colored modeling paste and stenciled the beautiful damask design; followed by splatters in the same color Flat Fabio spray C'est la vie Cerise. The other splatters were made by mixing gesso with LSG South Shore Sand (in the Flat Magicals set Hawaiian Islands). 

LSG Starburst Frostbitten Fuchsia was sprayed on the lace.  Under a light, the gorgeous fuchsia shimmer shines through this white spray.  

All of the resin pieces were heat embossed using LSG embossing powders.
The bird & nest:
  ~nest colored with Golden Angel Wings
  ~bird colored with Desert Moon Turquoise
  ~eggs colored with C'est la vie Cerise

 

The bird cage & the feather:

  ~both colored with Silver Moon Mistletoe 

 

 

 

The pink flowers were sprayed with LSG Starburst spray Frostbitten Fuchsia & the blue flowers were paint brushed with LSG Flat Fabio spray C'est la vie Cerise.  White raffia was sprayed with LSG Starburst spray A Bit o' Bubbly - a perfect color match to the dried grasses in the photo!



I bought some adorable dies that my good friend Tracy Funk uses frequently in her gorgeous creations.   

I used a couple of them in this LO.

Just Imagine

Welcome! 
Today I'm sharing my layout entry in the Scrap Around the World February 2015 Mood Challenge.  
I was inspired by the trees, the green & rust colors and the quote.


The first image that came to mind when I saw this mood board is a fabulously interesting photo taken by my daughter in Chiaksan National Park, South Korea.

I first stenciled and stamped the page; then added ink coloring to some areas.  The photo is framed with black and green distressed cardstock and the photo edge wire brushed.  Tim Holtz "Courtyard" Frameworks die cuts colored with Rusty Hinge distress ink and brushed with black gesso also helped to bring focus to the photo.

Some of the Wild Orchid Crafts flowers were sprayed with Lindy's Stamp Gang Flat Fabio colors Toto's Tornado Black & Greased Lightnin' Green.  The burnt umber colored roses were lightly brushed with black gesso.  I created flower stems using Flower Soft.

 

Prima wire thread was used to create the bodies and antennae for the tiny bronze colored dragonfly jewelry beads.  I also made a stick pin with black beads and bronze colored bead separators.

 

 

The carved head of a dragon is the post on a wooden bridge over a stream.  The dragon's scaly, snake like body makes up the handrail.  Look closely and you can even see the ridge down the 'middle of the dragon's back'.  Awesomely cool!
